Satin Smooth Soft Wax Guide: Which of the Six Waxes to Use

By Edmond Lin, M1 Nail & Beauty Supply, Markham, Ontario. Last updated 9 October 2026. Details are taken from Satin Smooth's own product information and the labels on the cans in our stock.

Pick a Satin Smooth soft wax by the client's hair and skin: Ultra Sensitive Zinc Oxide for fine to medium hair on delicate facial skin, Tea Tree for medium to coarse hair on sensitive skin, Deluxe Cream for thick, coarse or curly hair on normal to dry skin, Honey with Vitamin E as the all-rounder for normal to oily skin, Shea Butter + Cica for fine to medium hair on normal to oily skin, and Pure Clear when the client needs a wax without rosin, dyes or fragrance. All six are strip waxes in 14 oz (397 g) cans, and all six are used the same way.

Hair and skin ratings are the ones printed on each can. Satin Smooth's website shows a shorter "Best for" badge on each product page, and for some waxes it is narrower than the label; this chart follows the label because that is what you have in your hand at the station.

Which wax for which client

  • Brows, upper lip and blemish-prone faces:Ultra Sensitive Zinc Oxide Wax. It is the only one labelled specifically for facial and ultra-sensitive areas.
  • Sensitive skin, but the hair is not fine:Tea Tree Wax, labelled for medium to coarse hair on sensitive skin types.
  • Thick, coarse or curly hair on legs, arms or underarms, drier skin:Deluxe Cream Wax. Its emollients are there to soften the hair.
  • One can for most clients:Honey Wax with Vitamin E covers fine to coarse hair on normal to oily skin, on all body parts.
  • Fine to medium hair, normal to oily skin, and you want conditioning ingredients:Shea Butter + Cica Wax.
  • A client who reacts to rosin, or who asks for fragrance-free or vegan:Pure Clear Wax. It is also the one to use when you want to see the hair through the wax.

What is in each wax

Wax Ingredients as published by Satin Smooth
Ultra Sensitive Zinc Oxide Wax Glyceryl Rosinate, Paraffinum Liquidum, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Mica
Deluxe Cream Wax Not published on the product page
Honey Wax with Vitamin E Not published on the product page
Tea Tree Wax Glyceryl Rosinate, Paraffinum Liquidum, Titanium Dioxide, C.I. 26100
Pure Clear Wax Hydrogenated Poly(C6-20 Olefin), Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate
Shea Butter + Cica Wax Glyceryl Rosinate, Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), Centella Asiatica Extract, Water (Aqua), Propylene Glycol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopherol, Panthenol, Green 6 (CI 61565), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 11 (CI 47000)

Glyceryl rosinate is a rosin (pine resin) derivative, and it is the first ingredient in three of the four published lists. Pure Clear is the exception: its list has no rosin, which matches the "made without rosins, dyes and fragrances" line on the can. Satin Smooth warns that pine resin and honey are main components of its waxes and asks you to do a test area on clients with an allergy to either.

How to use Satin Smooth soft wax

  1. Remove the plastic lid, slide a protective collar onto the can and place the can in the wax warmer.
  2. Heat the wax until it has a thin, syrup-like texture.
  3. Cleanse the area to be waxed with a pre-wax cleanser.
  4. With a wooden spatula, apply a thin layer of wax in the direction of hair growth.
  5. Place an epilating strip over the wax and smooth it firmly in the direction of hair growth.
  6. Hold the skin taut and pull the strip off quickly against the direction of hair growth, keeping it close to the skin. Never reapply wax to the same area.
  7. When the area is finished, remove any wax residue from the skin with a wax remover.

Satin Smooth gives a texture rather than a temperature: the wax is ready when it is thin and syrup-like, not thick or lumpy. Dip an applicator to check, and test the temperature on the inside of your own wrist before the first strip. Its directions name Satin Cleanser for step 3 and Satin Release for step 7; warmers are in our wax warmer collection, strips and applicators in wax essentials, and pre- and post-wax products in wax care.

When not to wax

  • Skin that is irritated, broken, sunburned, or shows a rash; and over warts, moles, recent scar tissue, fresh tattoos, skin grafts or body piercings.
  • Skin treated with Retin-A, a topical prescription acne medication or AHA above 8%. Satin Smooth says clients on oral acne medication such as Accutane must be off it for 6 months before waxing.
  • An area that had microdermabrasion in the last 72 hours, medical dermabrasion in the last 3 months, Botox in the last 72 hours, or any other hair removal in the last 24 hours.
  • Skin that was in direct sun or a tanning bed in the 24 hours before the appointment.
  • The same spot twice: soft wax is never reapplied to an area that has just been waxed. Tweeze the hairs that are left.

This list condenses the warnings on Satin Smooth's product pages. After the service, the brand advises clients to keep soap, perfume and make-up off the area for 12 hours and to avoid sun, tanning beds and hot showers for 24 hours.

Cans and cases

Pack Wax in the pack Available for
Single can 14 oz (397 g) Zinc Oxide, Deluxe Cream, Honey with Vitamin E, Tea Tree, Pure Clear, Shea Butter + Cica
Case of 12 cans 168 oz (4,764 g, about 4.76 kg) Zinc Oxide, Deluxe Cream, Honey with Vitamin E, Tea Tree

The can goes straight into the warmer, so a salon that offers more than one wax needs one warmer well per formula. The case weight is 12 times the label weight of one can.

Satin Smooth questions

Which Satin Smooth wax is best for sensitive skin?

Ultra Sensitive Zinc Oxide Wax for the face and delicate, blemish-prone skin with fine to medium hair; Tea Tree Wax for sensitive skin with medium to coarse hair. Pure Clear Wax is labelled for all skin types and has no rosin, dyes or fragrance.

Which Satin Smooth wax is best for coarse hair?

Deluxe Cream Wax. Its label reads "ideal for thick, coarse or curly hair" and it is for normal to dry skin. Tea Tree, Honey and Pure Clear are also labelled up to coarse hair.

What is the difference between Satin Smooth Zinc Oxide and Tea Tree wax?

Both are cream soft waxes for sensitive skin. Zinc Oxide is labelled for fine to medium hair and for facial and ultra-sensitive areas; Tea Tree is labelled for medium to coarse hair on all body parts. In the published ingredient lists, Zinc Oxide adds zinc oxide and mica to the shared rosin, mineral oil and titanium dioxide base.

Is Satin Smooth wax rosin-free?

Only Pure Clear Wax. Its can says it is made without rosins, dyes and fragrances. The published ingredient lists for Zinc Oxide, Tea Tree and Shea Butter + Cica start with glyceryl rosinate.

Do you need strips with Satin Smooth soft wax?

Yes. All six are soft waxes: a thin layer is spread on the skin, an epilating strip is pressed over it and the strip is pulled off against the direction of hair growth.

How hot should Satin Smooth soft wax be?

Satin Smooth does not give a temperature. Heat the wax until it is thin and syrup-like, not thick or lumpy, and test it on the inside of your wrist before applying it to a client.

How much wax is in a can of Satin Smooth?

14 oz, which the label gives as 397 g. A case of 12 cans holds 168 oz, about 4.76 kg.

All six Satin Smooth soft waxes are in stock at M1 in Markham, by the 14 oz can and, for four of them, by the case of 12, for pickup or shipping across Canada.
