Does a disposable face mask protect against acrylic monomer fumes?
No. A 3-ply mask catches dust, but it is not a rated respirator and does not filter monomer or solvent vapours. Control vapours with good ventilation and by keeping dappen dishes, bottles and bins closed, and wear the mask for filing dust.
Do I need a face shield as well as a face mask?
A mask covers only the nose and mouth. When you work with an e-file, filings can fly toward the eyes, so a face shield adds cover for the eyes and face. Wear the shield over the mask, and wipe it clean between clients.
How often should I change a disposable face mask?
Treat it as single use. Change it when it gets damp, dirty or damaged, and do not put a mask back on after it has been off your face or in a pocket. Keep a box at each station so a fresh mask is always within reach.
