How to choose toe separators
- Disposable for every client. Foam is porous and cannot be properly cleaned, so treat foam separators as single use.
- Reusable means cleanable. Clean and disinfect a reusable silicone separator between clients as your local rules require, or give it to the client to keep.
- Bag or case. A bag of 100 pairs suits a small salon; a case of 1,000 pairs suits busy pedicure stations.

Foam or silicone toe separators: which should I use?
Foam separators are light, inexpensive to stock in bulk and meant for one client, so most salons use them for every pedicure. A reusable silicone separator can be cleaned and disinfected between clients, or given to a regular client to bring back. Choose by how you handle cleaning.
When do toe separators go on during a pedicure?
Put them in after the nails are shaped, cleaned and prepped, just before the base coat, and leave them in until the top coat is cured or dry. Taking them out early can smudge regular polish. Slippers let the client walk to the dryer with the separators still in place.
Are toe separators included in pedicure kits?
