How to choose a nail lamp

      • Match the gel. Cure times printed on a gel bottle are written for a lamp type; a brand system lamp removes the guesswork for that brand.
      • Cordless or plug-in. A cordless lamp follows the client from table to pedicure chair; a plug-in lamp never needs charging.
      • Add a flash lamp if you do soft gel tips or cat eye gel, so you can tack-cure one nail before it moves.

      Nail lamp FAQ

What is the difference between a UV and an LED nail lamp?

Both cure gel with light. LED lamps cure most modern gels in seconds instead of minutes, which is why most salon lamps sold today are LED or dual UV/LED. Older or hard gels made for UV bulbs may need a UV-capable lamp, so check the gel label.

How long should gel cure under the lamp?

Follow the cure time printed by the gel brand for your lamp type. Under-cured gel stays soft, lifts early and is more likely to irritate skin, so do not shorten the time, and cure thick builder layers in thinner coats.

Do I need the same brand of lamp as my gel?

Not always, but brands test their cure times on their own lamps. If a gel wrinkles, stays tacky or lifts, curing it under that brand's lamp is the first thing to check.
