Spider gel is a stretchy, elastic gel that pulls into a fine thread when you touch it to the nail and draw it away, for webs, grids, straight lines and French outlines. M1 Nail & Beauty Supply stocks spider gel jars and sets from ONME, YHH, Vinimay and Mischeering, in solid, metallic, bright and glitter colours.

How to choose and use spider gel

      • Work on a cured surface. YHH recommends pulling the lines over colour finished with a cured no-wipe top coat, or over a matte surface, so the threads grip.
      • Use very little. A pinhead-sized bead pulls into a thread; a big blob will not stretch.
      • Metallic lines. YHH marks its spider gel as no-wipe and able to take chrome powder, for metallic threads after curing; Vinimay's glitter jars sparkle without powder.

      Spider gel FAQ

How do I use spider gel?

Pick up a pinhead-sized bead with a dotting tool or fine brush, touch it to the nail and pull away so the gel stretches into a thread, then lay it across the nail. Build the pattern line by line, cure, and seal with top coat.

Why does my spider gel not stretch into a thread?

Usually there is too much gel on the tool. Take a smaller bead, touch the nail, then pull away in one smooth, steady movement; if the thread snaps, pull a little more slowly. Keep the jar away from the lamp so the gel does not start to set.

Do spider gel lines need a top coat?

Yes. Cure the lines first, then seal them with a gel top coat so they do not catch or lift. Vinimay and YHH label their spider gels no-wipe, so you can apply top coat straight after curing without wiping.
