How to choose paraffin wax
- Pick one scent for the salon. All three brands make Peach and Lavender, so the scent stays the same when you change brand or pack.
- Match the pack to the bath. A 1 lb bag tops up a running bath; a 2 lb block or 6 lb box refills it.
- Stock the wraps too. Plastic paraffin bags and cotton mitts or booties go over the wax after the dip to hold the warmth; you will find them in wax essentials.

What temperature should paraffin wax be for a hand or foot dip?
Follow the label on your wax. Champion's label says to melt the wax at the bath's highest setting, then turn it down to 113–115°F (45–46°C) and let it settle before use; Mellow's bag says not to use the wax above 115°F (46°C). Test it on the inside of your own wrist before every client.
Do I melt paraffin wax in its plastic bag?
No. Mellow's bag says to cut it open and slide the wax into the bath, not to heat it in the bag. Blocks go in whole; let a full refill melt before the first client of the day.
How do I keep a paraffin bath clean between clients?
Wash and dry the client's hands or feet before every dip, cover the wax with a plastic paraffin bag and a mitt or bootie, and throw the used wax away rather than returning it to the bath. Some health units prefer brushing or ladling to dipping, so check your local public health rules.
