Painting gel is a thick, pigmented gel that stays where you place it; pat painting gel is dabbed on with a sponge to build ombre, blush and soft gradients without an airbrush, then cured under a UV/LED lamp. How to choose painting gel

      • For ombre and blush: pick a pat (air-cushion) gel. It is made to be dabbed on in thin layers rather than brushed.
      • For skin-tone bases and soft French: the Mr. Nail nude pat gels, labelled foundation and concealer, give a skin-tone base under other art.
      • For line work and hand-painted detail: a cream gel palette or a jar gel holds a clean edge; use a detail brush and flash-cure between colours.
      • Seal it. Finish patted and painted designs with a gel top coat for shine and wear.

      Painting gel FAQ

      What is pat painting gel?

It is a thick, pigmented gel that you dab onto the nail with a sponge or cushion tool instead of brushing it on. Patting leaves a soft, diffused edge, so it is used for ombre, blush and gradient nails that would otherwise need an airbrush. It cures under a UV/LED lamp like other gel.

How do I get a smooth ombre with pat gel instead of a patchy one?

Load very little gel on the sponge, tap off the excess on a palette, and build colour in several light pats rather than one heavy layer. Pat over a cured, smooth base, flash-cure between layers if the colour starts to drag, and soften the transition with a clean part of the sponge.

Do painting gel designs need a top coat?

In most cases, yes. Cure the art, then seal it with a gel top coat so the colour is protected and the surface is glossy or matte, as you choose. Cure each layer for the time on the gel label, and cap the free edge with top coat for longer wear.
