Wooden Waxing Spatula Sizes: Which Silver Star Spatula for Which Area (MB1, MB2, MB3, MB9)

Use a wide spatula for large areas and a narrow one for the face. In the Silver Star range, MB1 (150 mm, wide) is for legs, arms and backs; MB2 (114 mm) is for underarms and the bikini line; MB3 (140 mm, narrow) is for brows, lip and nose; and MB9 (105 mm, slanted end) is for shaping brows. All four are disposable wooden applicators: one dip, one spread, then the bin.

Which spatula for which body area

Area Spatula Why
Full legs, arms, back, chest Silver Star MB1 The wide blade carries more wax and covers a long strip in one pass.
Lower legs, underarms, bikini line Silver Star MB2 Shorter and easier to steer around curves; still wide enough to load well.
Brows, upper lip, chin, nose, ears Silver Star MB3 The narrow stick lays a thin, controlled line of wax on small areas.
Brow shaping, clean edges Silver Star MB9 The slanted end gives a sharp edge right under the brow line.

Why width matters more than length

The width of the spatula sets the width of the wax strip. The MB1 box gives its size as 15 x 1.8 cm; the MB3 box gives 14 x 0.6 cm. They are almost the same length, but the MB1 is three times as wide.

A wide spatula on a brow puts wax where you do not want it. A narrow spatula on a leg means many more dips and a slower service. Most waxing rooms keep one wide and one narrow size at every station.

How to apply wax with a wooden spatula

  1. Warm the wax to working temperature and test it on the inside of your wrist.
  2. Dip the spatula and scrape one side on the rim of the pot so it does not drip.
  3. Hold it at about 45 degrees and spread a thin, even layer in the direction of hair growth.
  4. For soft wax, press a strip over it and pull against the direction of growth. Hard wax sets and is lifted off by hand, without a strip.
  5. Throw the spatula away. Take a new one for the next dip.

No double dipping

A spatula that has touched skin must never go back into the pot, because it carries skin cells and bacteria into wax that the next client will share. Wood is porous and cannot be disinfected, so wooden spatulas are single use. That is why they are sold in boxes of 500 and 1,000: a full leg wax can use a dozen or more.

Questions about waxing spatulas

What size spatula is best for eyebrow waxing?

A narrow one. Silver Star MB3 is 140 mm long and about 6 mm wide, and MB9 is 105 mm with a slanted end for the edge under the brow.

What size spatula is best for leg waxing?

A wide one. Silver Star MB1 is 150 mm long and 18 mm wide, the size the box calls "Senior".

Can I reuse a wooden waxing spatula?

No. Wood cannot be disinfected, and a used spatula contaminates the wax pot. Use a new spatula for every dip.

Do wooden spatulas work with both soft and hard wax?

Yes. The same spatulas spread soft wax and hard wax.

How many spatulas are in a box?

MB1, MB2 and MB9 come 500 to a box. MB3 comes 1,000 to a box.

Can I use waxing spatulas for anything else?

Yes. The Silver Star box lists spreading creams and mixing, so salons also use them for masks and for mixing tint.

Where can I buy waxing spatulas in Canada?

M1 Nail & Beauty Supply stocks all four Silver Star sizes in Markham, Ontario, for pickup or shipping across Canada. Strips, collars and other supplies are in waxing essentials.
