Lotus Waxing Strips: Soft, Medium or Hard Finish, Roll or Pre-Cut?

By Edmond Lin, M1 Nail & Beauty Supply, Markham, Ontario. Last updated 11 October 2026. Finish names, sizes and materials are taken from the Lotus roll and pack labels.

Lotus waxing strips come in three fabric finishes: Soft Finish for the face and other curved areas, Medium Finish as the all-round strip for arms and legs, and Hard Finish for large areas and strong pulls. A fourth roll, Natural Muslin, is labelled for all soft waxing. "Hard" and "soft" describe how firm the cotton fabric is, not the type of wax: every Lotus strip is plain fabric used with soft (strip) wax. The rolls are 3 inches wide and 100 yards long; the pre-cut packs hold 100 strips of 3 x 9 inches.

Which finish should you choose?

  • Choose Soft Finish for brows, lip, chin, underarms and the bikini line, where the strip has to follow a curve and sit flat on a small area.
  • Choose Medium Finish if you want one roll for most services. It is firm enough for a clean pull on arms and legs and still flexible on smaller areas.
  • Choose Hard Finish for full legs, backs and other large areas, for coarse hair, and when you pull the same strip several times.
  • Choose Natural Muslin if you want the roll labelled for all soft waxing; its English and French label gives no firmness grade.
  • Stocking one waxing room? Most salons keep a soft roll for the face and a firmer roll for the body.

Are "hard wax strips" for hard wax?

No. On a Lotus label, "Hard Waxing Strips" means a hard-finish fabric, the stiffest of the three. It is still used with soft wax, the kind that is spread thin and lifted off with a strip. Hard wax is a different product: it sets on the skin and is peeled off by hand, so it needs no strips at all. To compare the two wax types, see soft wax vs hard wax vs roll-on.

Roll or pre-cut strips?

Lotus also packs the same kind of fabric as pre-cut strips: 100 strips of 3 x 9 inches, in Soft Finish and Hard Finish. A pack holds 25 yards of fabric, a quarter of one roll.

How to use Lotus strips with soft wax

  1. If you use a roll, cut strips before the client arrives. Around 9 inches is a common length for body work; cut shorter pieces for the face.
  2. Cleanse the skin and make sure it is dry.
  3. Spread a thin layer of warm soft wax in the direction of hair growth with a spatula.
  4. Lay the strip over the wax, leave a free end to hold, and press it down firmly in the direction of hair growth.
  5. Hold the skin taut and pull the strip back against the direction of hair growth, keeping it close to the skin.
  6. Reuse the strip on the same client until it stops gripping, then throw it away.

How many strips are in one Lotus roll?

A 100-yard roll is 3,600 inches of fabric. Cut into 9-inch strips, that is 400 strips per roll, the same as four pre-cut packs. Cut into shorter 4.5-inch facial strips, it is 800. A case of 12 rolls gives about 4,800 full-length strips.

Strip length Strips per roll Strips per case of 12
9 in (body) 400 4,800
6 in 600 7,200
4.5 in (face) 800 9,600

Questions about Lotus waxing strips

Do Lotus waxing rolls and strips have wax on them?

No. They are plain fabric. You apply soft wax to the skin first, then press the strip on top and pull.

What size are Lotus waxing rolls?

Every roll is 3 inches wide and 100 yards long (7.6 cm x 91.4 m). The pre-cut strips are 3 x 9 inches (7.6 x 22.9 cm), 100 to a pack.

What is the difference between Soft, Medium and Hard Finish?

The firmness of the fabric. Soft bends most easily and suits curved areas. Hard is the stiffest and suits large areas and strong pulls. Medium sits between the two and works for most body waxing.

How do I tell the Lotus rolls apart?

By the label colour: light blue is Soft, green is Medium Finish, yellow is Hard, and the roll with a yellow band and a white English and French label is Natural Muslin.

What are Lotus waxing strips made of?

The Medium and Hard Finish labels print "100% Cotton (Bleached)". Muslin is woven cotton cloth, which does not fray, tear or stretch on the pull.

Can a strip be reused?

On the same client, yes: one strip usually takes several pulls before it stops gripping. Never carry a used strip over to another client.

Where are Lotus pre-cut strips made?

The pack is marked Made in Bangladesh and carries the Beautex name; some packs are printed beauteX instead of Lotus.
